Spring - New Beginnings

When I think of spring, I think of new beginnings, rebirth, changing and falling in love.  I think there is a cliché about in spring a young man’s thoughts turn to love. I love the way the seasons are changing and flowers are blooming, the trees are budding, and the earth is turning green again. Just like the earth, people also have times in their lives when they change and evolve, are reborn or fall in love.

When I was in my thirties, after fifteen years of marriage, I walked out the door and decided this was not what I wanted in life. I had been extremely unhappy for probably fourteen of those fifteen years. There were times it got better, but I could never say I was happy. Not only did it reflect in my marriage, but it reflected in my personality.  I hated my marriage, I hated my job, I hated my life. When you’re an unhappy person, it radiates from you. You become toxic. I was a walking, toxic ball of unhappiness.

After I walked out, I made the decision to become a different person. I went to therapy, I learned more about myself and what I liked. I decided never to settle for second best ever again. I can’t tell you that this change magically happened over night. There were plenty of bumps along the road, wrong paths taken and well-hard learned lessons. But I made the decision to be a happier person.

This was the spring of my life – the new beginning.

Today, I love my life. It’s not perfect, but I don’t wake up in the morning and think who’s going to crap on my parade today. I pay more attention to the good things and deal with the issues that I don’t like right away. Fortunately, today I have a wonderful man in my life that makes me smile all the time and even when things get rocky between us, I know with certainty that we’ll work things out. My job is a job, but I’m happy there. My writing is my passion, and I create a new beginning each time I sit down to write a book. My characters must go through the dark winter, overcome obstacles and find their spring or rebirth.

So what about you? Was there a time in your life when you experienced a new beginning? A springtime where you were reborn and learned a valuable lesson of rebirth?

If you leave a comment, I will enter you into a drawing for a free copy of one of my books.  Your choice.  Here is from my current series, The Cuvier Widows:
They met over his dead body! Marian Cuvier didn't know how to react when she learned that the man she called husband and father to her children, Jean Cuvier, had been murdered. Yet, the biggest surprise was when the detective informed her that she's not the only woman Jean married. There are three Cuvier Widows and one is suspected of murder.

Hi Sylvia,

Excellent post. I think those times happen in all our lives. Maybe not to the magnitude as they did in yours, but still, they happen. My dad was my best friend and my sounding board. When he died at age 64, one of the things he told me was that life is for the living. Make the most of each day. Take his grandsons fishing. Like you, I've gone down some wrong paths. But when both my boys joined the army within 6 weeks of one another, I finally decided that I had to do something for me. I'd always wanted to write and worked up the courage to join my local chapter of RWA. It's been an adventure ever since.

When I kept on writing and writing I had to make a choice to do something with it or just piddle. I chose to go forward. Something just for me. There are people who have had to make adjustments in a grumpy way. I just look at all I'd done for others and decided this kind of selfishness wasn't so bad.

Excellent post!

You're right, if we are unhappy, we are toxic. I hated that about myself and work everyday to change it.

Your book sounds amazing. I love the thought of murder and the three wives who didn't know about each other.

Hi Pam,
You are so right that we need to do the things we love and you have been successful with your writing. Your dad sounded like a great guy. Some of my fondest memories are time spent with my grandmother and grandfather. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Hi Ms Batman!! I'm so glad that you chose to go forward and do something just for you. I do enjoy your stories so very much. Your kind of selfishness was a very good thing. Now when is that new story coming out.

Hi Melissa,
Thanks for stopping by. I still have days I have to remind myself how much I'm blessed and to put aside the anger. Especially at work. Thanks for hte kind words about my book. I love this story.

Great post, Sylvia and I just love your spring time little girl picture!

I also just love spring, thus I get spring fever really bad and want to do nothing but go out and play! Also since moving to Texas, I've manage to acquire spring allergies which carry out the rest of the year.

I've noticed that the worst of life happenings for me have been in the winter and I then look forward to Spring to change things back to good for me.

The book sounds really intriguing!

Thanks Phyllis! You have had your own personal winter, but now you are in the Spring with allergies. Hubby has been fighting allergies all week.

Funny you should mention this past winter. I wasn't even thinking of IT. I was remembering things over the past twenty years and they always happened generally between November and the end of February, Hum...go figure. Maybe I should check out my karma, kizmit or whatever cosmic type thing that some people follow...lol

Wow! This was a really inspiring post Sylvia!

It made sense. Over the years I've noticed that about you. You decide you want to do something and you organize yourself and get it done. This self-discipline/get-it-done attitude of yours is a trait I admire.

Thanks for being a role-model today.

You know, you have something about 'Spring', too. Seems like Spring should be when we set our new year's resolutions instead of in the dead of winter. Spring is all about new beginnings.
Thanks!!!

I remember a picture that used to go around the internet of a lion pushed into the corner with a female lion roaring in his face - the caption - If mama ain't happy nobodys happy.

That's true for everyone really. When anyone in my house is having a bad grumpy day- it spreads and everyone snaps at each other.

We all need to take the time to unwind, refuel, and laugh. Whether that's on a trip with a loved one or at dinner with a friend - Find our happiness where we can.

and I absolutely love the premis of the book. I love the idea of three women and a secret!!
