And yes, add things to our bucket list! I want to go to Hawaii, see more of Jamaica, travel Europe, and visit Egypt if it's safe enough. And eat lots of different foods too! I just read a book about a young man who had leukemia. He treasured every single breath of fresh air, every tiny bit of beauty in nature. If we knew we only had a short time left, I think it would really help us all focus. :)Alishahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03344425510934073606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6028147191445531358.post-67480877252135414642014-05-18T17:10:42.855-05:002014-05-18T17:10:42.855-05:00Hi, everyone! Nothing thrills me like sitting on patio when the hummingbirds visit! I don't have a bucket list. We love to travel--mostly New England. When I first spoke of Zen I asked my participants to see life as if it were the first time--the first time you saw your eleven year-old son, the first time you experienced spring, the first time you saw a budding rose. But part of Zen I never felt comfortable teaching was to see life as if it might be your last time seeing it. I think I was scared of this because of my own fear of death. But after experiencing quite a few blows from death, I now see how much more heartening looking at life as if it might end can be. It's such a beautiful life. Going to Alaska this summer for the first time. I'd like to say something on behalf of the rut: it's familiar and comfortable. I love to travel but I also love coming home. Frankly, I think you need both. You don't appreciate the rut until you go outside of it.
