Vicki Batman and a holiday gift!

Star in the Night

Every year, I go to a small town for their Candlelight Home Tour with four girlfriends for girl time ( 'cause we all know good girlfriends are the best psychologists), good food, peanut M&Ms, champagne cocktails, and most importantly, shopping. This special time kicks off the Christmas season for us.

Traditionally, after touring the final home, we head for The Enchanted Forest to see the Christmas trees, sponsored by local businesses. This time as I walked through the forty-ish trees, a beautiful, red, star-shaped tree topper entranced me. I pulled out my trusty Blackberry and captured it:

Isn't it gorgeous?

All of the sudden, my eye caught every topper there. I snapped pictures of those as well. Why stars on top of Christmas trees?

I found this wiki answer: A star on the top of the tree is representative of that star that led the wise men to Jesus.

Pretty cool. I've always loved the shape and colors of the stars and put them all over my tree and have a silver tree topper.

But I couldn't let my photos go. So, I took all my pictures of star toppers from my galpal weekend and created a movie for you. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  1. Breathtaking beautiful photos of the stars. Amazing. I just read in the book, Journey by Adam Hamilton, the wise men (who were probably astrologers or astronomers)may have followed that star from what is now Iran to Bethlehem...a 1000 mile trip that took 3-6 months before they arrived at Baby Jesus birthplace. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Wonderful stars! We always had an angel on the top of our trees. Wonder what that means? An angel watching over us?

Up here in The Frozen North of Chicagoland, this transplanted native Texan has a lighted jalapeno wreath hanging in the window.

    Happy Holidays!

  5. beautiful

and yes traveling 2000 years ago took a bit longer than it does today- many historians believe jesus was closer to a toddler than an infant by the time the wise men found him.

My grandmother always had the most beautiful tree topper stars and then she'd build this huge little village in the opposite corner of the house leading to the manger.

    wonderful memories - thanks vicki

  8. Beautiful, Vicki. I grew up with stars on the trees and then switched over to angels. I guess I felt the need to be watched over...lol.

  9. Hi, Phyllis. Mom had an angel too (and I'm happy to add I have a similar one!, but she watches over me at my desk).

I switched to a silver topper with my boys and didn't have my angel. ox

  11. Lovely, Vicki! On my tree top, I have an angel my son gave me for Christmas one year. It has become a family keepsake and someday, I'll pass it on to him. :)

  12. Hi, Adriana: I'll have to check and see which is your fav. This is so much fun!

Hi, Sheila: If I had a tree topper from my sons, it would have the place of honor. Instead, I have a paper Christmas tree mobile. LOL and ox

  13. Adriana mentioned at 26 is her favorite... A bit about this one: it had a whole flashing light sequence that was way cool; however, I couldn't capture it. My friend did video it and it is mighty fine.

Okay...this is it. This is what I want for Christmas. That stars like you abound the world over. Such a gift of hope and joy.

Love you Vicki. You are one special individual. You already know I'm sentimental today if you've read some of the other blogs and although it is a cliche' I do have to say, my heart certainly belongs to Texas.

  45. Sorry I'm late. I babysat my two granddaughters all day yesterday and came home and crashed!! I have to do it all over again on Thursday.

Anyway, I loved the star movie, Vicki. It really put me in a Christmas mood, emphasizing the real reason for the season.

As for girlfriend trips, they keep me sane.

    Merry Christmas, everyone.
