Doppelgangers
A little background. Soon after we married, my hubby agreed to take me and two of my girlfriends to a Neil Diamond concert. Personal quirk, I have to be early to those things. So we’re sitting in our lower balcony seats and he’s got the binoculars watching people, girls probably. Suddenly he stops and looks at me, hands me the binoculars and tells me to look on the tenth row back. Wouldn’t tell me what I was looking for, just that I’d know it when I saw it. I scanned and suddenly stopped breathing. There was a girl who looked so much like me, I couldn’t believe it. Auburn hair, same style cut. She was even dressed in emerald green, my favorite color at the time. Obviously, made an impression.
But over the holidays, I’ve been thinking about how certain actors resemble actors from earlier generations. It started when my mom was watching an old episode of Jag. She’s addicted to the star, David James Elliott. I never watched the show, but Mom was also a huge Rock Hudson fan and she pointed to the screen and said something along the lines of, “There hasn’t been an actor that good looking since Rock Hudson."
What other ones can you come up with?

Hey, Pam, it is true! Once upon a time, I worked at an amusement park. My foreman summoned me to work the front three cars. Just before the train came in, he said unload 3, 2, then one last. I did and as I lifted the safety bar, her boyfriend looked at me, then his girl. I looked at the girl. MY TWIN!!! We laughed a lot over that.
Intereting post!
Hi Vicki, isn't that the strangest feeling? I never talked to the girl, but it did make an impression.
When my husband was younger, I swore he resembled Barichnokov, the dancer. In fact, when we lived in Russia, a lot of people thought he was Russian.
Never personally met any of my own doppelganers.
first off - your mother is so smart - I LOVED the tv show JAG - that's actually how I discovered I could write - writing fanfiction for JAG - lol
So I have to comment on DJE - yes that actor the first 8 seasons of JAG could melt ice in a freezer - lol dang he was hot!! lol.
next - If I'd been you I'd have gone down to that woman and introduced myself- I'm just too darn curious - : )
and now to answer your questions - lol - I never noticed the actual physical resemblence between early stars and today's actors. I have compared people for their status
Meryl Streep is like the Betty Davis of our time.
George Clooney or Jude law the Cary Grant
Tom Hanks the Gary Cooper,
but I'll have to give some thought to the actual resemblence of folks as well as their status.
Oh Chris, you are so funny. You do know that Thursday is all day Jag on one of the cable channels, right?
The class/personality connection is a whole different topic.
Liese, interesting about your hubby. I've never been mistaken for a celebrity, but I have had a couple comments to that effect. My 25 year old hairdresser commented that I had a Diane Keaton thing going on. She was referring to my hair I think, but I can deal with that.
While I don't think they're anything alike, there are times they can look almost identical: Natalie Portman and Keira Knightly.
And I know what you mean about looking like someone. There's another 'me' in Dallas somewhere - everyone else has seen her, but I never have :)
Ah, Pam, such a fun topic.
Like Chris, I never really gave thought to or researched the resemblances of actors, but I can see them since you've pointed them out.
I've been told many times I've had a twin someone has met. I've yet to see or meet her.
I had several people tell me that I looked like the female cop in the movie Robocop, back in the day when I was younger, skinner, and my hair color hadn't changed.
Thanks for the enjoyable topic!
Entertaining blog, Pam. I have a birthday card my sister sent because the young girl on the front is identical to me at that age.
And I watched every single episode of JAG. What about Catherine Bell and Katie Perry?
Sorry I've been MIA on the blog. I've been in deadline hell.
Oh, my goodness, Pam! What an interesting blog. These pictures are amazing. I'd never noticed the similarity between Newman and McConoughey.
But when I first saw Brad Pit on screen I thought he must surely be Robert Redford's son.
BTW I met Mr. Redford. Early one morning he stood in front of me in the Sundance ski lift line. (I was cutting class - skiing was my passion.) He was just as handsome in person, polite and gentlemanly, but not as tall as he appears on screen.
Hi, Pam
My husband once worked in Turkemenistan and he was fond of giving away Turkmen money -- a 10,000 Manat note was worth about seventeen cents at the time. Once he handed a bill, which had the Turkmen president's picture on it, to a flight attendant and she asked him, "Is this you?" Larry really did bear a close resemblance to the president. He answered in a fake accent, "Yes. I am the president of Turkmenistan. I am traveling in coach class so I will not be recognized."
The flight attendants gave him fabulous first class service for the rest of the flight.
I'm going with George Clooney and Cary Grant. (No way Jude Law, Chris!)
And Debra Messing and Lucille Ball.
I could go on and on like this all day. But I have copy edits to finish plowing through.
Thanks for the fun post!
WOW never realized how ALIKE they look! And btw, YUM!
Toboth the old guys and the young ones. When I worked retail for 12 years, I would have someone come up to me and ask, "Do you have a sister in Demoine?" or "You look just like this girl I used to know"
It happened often enough to give me a complex. I thought I must have a very common face.

Great post, Pam! I didn't realize how alike these guys looked, but you hit the nail on the head!
I have one of those faces that everybody seems to know. I can't tell you how many people have asked me if I know so-and-so or if I just to live in a certain place. The anwser was always no.
I did however, see/meet my doppelganger when I was in elementry school. We had moved to Honolulu and in school there was a girl a year ahead of me that people swore was my twin. We really did look that much alike. LOL
And don't get me started on how complete strangers will come up and tell me all about their problems because I have "one of those faces."
Wow, I'm surprised how many of us mention our own possible doppelgangers.
Sasha, I agree on Natalie and Keira. There is a similarity.
Liz, I'll have to look at Catherine Bell and Katy Perry.
Kathleen, I'd have passed out if I'd been in line behind Mr. Redford. How cool.
Deb Messing and Lucille Ball - I'll have to check that out also.
Linda, I can so see Larry doing that.
And Juliet, agree, they are all yum.
Hey, Kathy. I must have one of those faces too. Everyone seems to think they should tell me their problems. Sort of flattering, I think. This has been fun. Wish we'd have all had actual pictures we could post of ourselves and our doppelgangers. That would have been fun. Ha.
Hey Pam,
Great post! I'd never noticed the resemblances, but your examples do look a like. Especially Brad Pitt and Robert Redford. I've never met my doppelganger, but people will swear they've met me before. Guess I have "one of those faces."
I can't think of any actor dopplegangers off of the top of my head, but I've seen a few of my friends dopplegangers when traveling. Those comparisons you found are really great ones that I would have never thought about.
