Sasha: Happy Valentine's Day!!!

As a woman who spends the better part of each day considering all things romance and love, Valentine’s Day has a special place in my heart.
I remember the first Valentine’s Day card that meant something to me. It was 1983 and my class was making cards for art. I was in love with Jason Lynn, all the 3rd grade girls were. He had floppy blond hair and big chocolate brown eyes. Everyone liked him, he was nice, athletic, and easy to look at.
I worked especially hard on his Valentine, cutting and pasting and drawing things I knew he liked, before writing ‘Love, Sasha’ on it with red marker. Everyone else’s read, ‘Happy Valentine’s Day – Sasha’. I hoped (and kind of didn’t) he’d notice the difference. When the class party began, we all rifled through the boxes we’d made.
I was on pins and needles. Would he read mine? Would he see the time I’d taken to make his special? More importantly, would he care?
I found his card to me. It was a plain red heart. “From: Jason Lynn” & “To: Sasha” A small purple heart was glued on. I stared at it – then glanced around the room looking at his other cards. All of his looked the same. All of them. I put on my brave face and suffered through the day.
As I was walking home, I started to sniffle. It was okay, I’d get over it. I had two teenage sisters, I knew a broken heart didn’t last long.
And then he was walking beside me, alone, and he told me I was an awesome artist and that he liked the GI Joe and Star Wars people I’d drawn on his card. I said thanks. And then he asked me if I liked his. I said, yeah sure, all smiley and normal.
Then he said something that made me all warm and jittery inside:
“I had to trade my Garbage Pail Kid stickers for the purple paper. Alice wouldn’t share, but I knew purple was your favorite color.”
Yea, you can kind of imagine how full my heart felt. I was all flushed and wobbly. And it was the most wonderful feeling ever.
I’ve had many wonderful, romantic Valentine’s Days since 1983 (and I have no idea what happened to Jason Lynn), but I’ll never forget that feeling.
My wish for you all this Valentine’s Day? That someone makes you all flushed and wobbly!

Hi, Sasha, and happy V-Day to you!

I love to tell this story, but at one time, I was livid when it happened. I did receive a DEAR JOHN letter on Valentine's Day. On behalf of all women worldwide, I wanted to teach the moron a lesson. Alas, never happened. I did, however, immortalize the event in a story for True Love, Valentine Hell aka Valentine's Day Misery. And threw in a couple of other wierd things too. LOLOL

Again, the written word prevails.

Hi Sasha,
Loved your story of love at such a young age. Funny how we remember those crushes.

As an adult today is a fun day. I hope all of you have a great day and that you receive candy and flowers and are showered with love.

Hi Sasha and a big welcome to your newest Plotting Princess!

I got all sniffly when reading about that special valentine. He traded just to get purple paper for you! How more special can it get than that, especially for a young boy. Awww!

Wishing all of you a special Valentine's Day filled with love, joy, and lots of chocolate.

Hey Sasha,
Got flowers today at work from Hubbie. They arrived in a Heart-shaped vase. Here is what the card said: "This is to remind you that my heart is always beating just for you."

The man knows how to make me happy.

Ah, young love is so raw and great. Thanks for sharing that story. I got flowers this morning from my Valentine, but he makes me feel special all year round.
