MY IDEA OF FUN -- by Phyllis Middleton

What is your idea of having fun?

In recent months, 'stuff 'in my life got troublesome. Sickness, surgeries...you know the kind of stuff I mean. Okay, I'll admit it. That 'stuff ' just got down right scary and not only for me, but hubby, too. So scary in fact, I started thinking about putting together a bucket list.

Have you ever noticed that when you put a bucket list together you always think about the fun things to do? Aside from any of my writing goals, my list contains all the things I so enjoy. Here is a sampling:

Travel. I love anything that has to do with water. On any given day you are likely to find me on the deck of a cruise ship going to destinations I look forward to seeing and things so much fun in doing.

If I'm not on a cruise ship being pampered, then you'll probably find me on the charter ship out there fishing. I so enjoy doing that. I got two big ones on our last trip to Alaska and we've booked the whole day with the same charter captain for more fun and excitement at the end of this April.

If I'm not fishing for the creatures of the deep, you may very well find me swimming with them!

Next is Game Day! Game day for our family means getting together for a whole day with our friends and family and we play games all day long. It could be card games, board games, dominoes or word games. Anything that puts us together as a family. We have so much fun and it's absolutely great when we have that opportunity to spend that kind of time with friends and family.

Commercial games: I call it commercial games because that's when we go to someplace like Dave and Busters and play on all of the machines. I like the coin drop which puts me into the skill of putting a coin in just the right spot to allow multiple coins to fall and give me lots of wonderful tickets. Hubby, being the fisher and hunter he has been, loves the Big Game Shooting game. He's good enough to have top billing on the games brag board.

Are your good times seasonal? Spring, summer and fall will find me either taking nice hiking walks or picnics in the Rocky Mountains or swimming in the light blue and turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

If I'm in snow I am playing in it- not driving in the mess. I so enjoy tubing and snowmobiling. I am just as content to stay curled up in fleece blankets, by a fireplace and enjoying yummy hot chocolate.

Well, that's a touch of my fun life. What about yours? With spring and Summer right around the corner what's on your list of big fun things to do?

Hi Phyllis,
I love to travel as well. One of my greatest memories is hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Forest. I haven't done the Alaska Cruise yet (maybe this year), but it's definitely something we want to do. We are going zip-lining sometime this spring. I got my guys a zip-line tour in East Texas, so we're doing that sometime this spring.

Hi, Phyllis! Big travel trips are so much fun and create huge memories. I love cruises--Alaska, Mediterranean, Hawaii. Say when, and my bags are packed.

Er, um, I guess I'm the only Princess who doesn't travel. I think the last time I was out of Texas was maybe the early 1990s. Not that I wouldn't want to go someplace exotic, something just always seems to come up.

We do more stay-cations than travel, although I'd love to get away and do something exciting. Maybe I should add that to my own bucket list.

Hi Phyllis,
I love to travel too! We haven't done a lot of it lately, but it's still on the bucket list. Cruises are fun. I need to take one to Alaska. :)

Wow, Sylvia, Zip LIning? I'm generally afraid of heights, so that is one things NOT on my list. More power to you! Alaska is very impressive. Don't you love those Rocky Mountains? I sure do.

Vicki - I've been to Hawaii, but have not cruised it...yet. I am looking into the transatlantic cruises, or rather Hubby is.

Kathy - I've had my share of Stay-cations, but going someplace you've never been to is exciting and adventuresome. I guess I am an adventure addict. Hum, I wonder if we got you started if the travel bug will get into your blood!

Karilyn - To me, travel is the ultimate make sure it's on the bucket list item. I've learned a long time ago after so many close calls as a cop, to really live life. You onbly have one time around!.

Who knew you were so outdoorsy?? As writers we spend so much of our time alone in the house, it's refreshing to see how much you enjoy outside stuff. For me, it's sports. I love love love going to my grandkid's soccer games. We also do a lot of family oriented things-I just booked a week long cruise for all of us to celebrate our anniversary next year. And we go on vacation as a family for a week every year.

And I love shooting the bull with friends. And who could forget shopping??? As for traveling, I've had to travel so much with my own career and hubby's military one that I am all traveled out. Hawaii is my most favorite pace on the world to travel to, though. thanks for sharing your pictures, Phyllis.
