Sassy writer Vicki Batman's newest funny fiction is:
The competition is heating up when Janie's old flame
is back in town, running his family's business.
COOL EXCERPT:
"So what else turns you off?"
In one corner, imitation leather purses embellished with rhinestone crowns had been stacked on a glass and chrome shelving unit. Cheap, gemstone bracelets decorated a nearby display stand.
I pointed to a shirt rack and said in a soft voice, "I'd never wear these clothes." With a frown, Tracy cupped her mouth. "Me, neither. They're aimed for the nighttime crowd—if you catch my drift."
"I do. Yuck." Taking in the whole enchilada, I stopped when I spied the jean-clad backside of a male employee sweeping the floor. God, I hope he hadn't heard us.
I steered Tracy aside and whispered, "We'll have no problems with our store succeeding in the Depot District. We're better than the ones at the mall and all the other stores around here."
"I agree. Let's split up, take mental notes, and meet out front in fifteen minutes." I peeled off to the left, and she went to the right.
The man cleaning glanced over his shoulder and straightened. "May I help you?"
Instantly, my body froze like an icicle. It couldn't be—could it? Fletcher? As in my once upon a time boyfriend, Fletcher Babcock? When had he abandoned the bright lights of Big D and returned to Sommerville?

Just back from a store run for more ice. Not for the drinks, unfortunately. For the dead fridge. Ten days and counting....
Congrats on the release of Store Wars. It sounds like a hoot! Best wishes.
Kristi Rhodes
Hi, Kristi! My goal is for someone to chuckle over the story and say, "hey, I liked it." So thank you. And you get an extra cherry in your champagne cocktail. Visit the PP again-okay?
Store Wars is the perfect title. So much fun. Hey, I need some of those nachos to go with my Diet Coke too. (I do hope you have some Diet Coke left???) Congratulations and best wishes!!!
Hi, J Q Rose! So happy you are here too. I don't have nachos. I have queso. And it is the best recipe.
This is the large version:
big Velvetta. Cut into cubes and drop in crock pot on low. Add spicy diced tomatoes, 2 cans of Rotel, chopped tomatoes, one chopped onion, chopped cilantro, small can of evaporated milk, chopped green onions and maybe a smidgen of finely diced jalapenos (depends on heat desired). Stir up as it melts! Yummy.
YUMM--anything with Velveeta..sounds so sinful. Let me at it...Thanks for the recipe.Um, do you have an idea how to clean out the crockpot too after we've chowed down on this wonderful concoction? too bad I won't be around for clean up to see how you do it!!LOL..
haha JQ Rose. I have one big tip: don't let it overcook. And can save leftovers in a container.
Then scrape away with a spatula. Then fill with hot soapy water and set overnight. Most just washes away (except for the cooked on bits).
Once upon a time there was a jalapeno velveeta which was great in the queso.
Love the cover, love the excerpt, love your work in general, Vicki! Congratulations on your Launch Day!!
Light,
Nancy Haddock
Hi, Nancy! Am so happy you could celebrate with me at the PP. What shall you have? Hmmm? I know--reaching across the table--chocolate covered strawberries! I can't believe we haven't had those. Enjoy! and thanks.
Happy launch day, Batman! Your covers just rock. :)
Hi, all! I'm looking around and there's cake crumbles, an empty bottle of bubbly or two. And no more strawberries. Wow, you know how to party on.
And so, it is time for good night.
Thandk you for the best wishes. Happy reading!
Happy launch day, Stalker Buddy! I hope it was great :)
A great excerpt, Vicki! The old boyfriend returning to the hometown always makes a good premise for an intriguing read. Good luck with this story!
