LET'S ALL WRITE TOGETHER -- By Kathy Ivan

We've had a lot of author interview posts and getting to know a bunch of new people lately, plus lots of blogs about writing and craft; so I thought we'd do something a little bit different and kind of fun today.

We're going to do what's called Round Robin writing. It's fun, quick and easy and everybody gets to participate. The rules are fairly simple and I'm listing them here.

1. Read the scene below—it's very short.

2. In the comments section, leave a comment continuing the scene in your own way. Please only write a maximum of 3 lines in your comment.

3. The next person should read the continued scene in the comments section. Then starting with the last comment posted, they CONTINUE THE SCENE, again writing no more than a maximum of 3 lines in their comment.

4. Each person who visits the blog continues the scene, writing their 1 to 3 line comment, advancing the story. You can take the story in any direction you want with your comments, but remember, you are trying to advance the story that is being written (not start something new). You can add in a suspense element, paranormal element, a sci-fi element, a steampunk element, whatever you'd like.

5. PLEASE and I can't stress this enough, PLEASE KEEP YOUR SCENE PG RATED. No explicit sex scenes for this round robin.

6. Feel free to come back as many times throughout the day as you would like, adding additional posts and continuing the scene/story.

Everybody is invited to participate. Whether you are a reader or a writer, we encourage you to leave a comment and add to the story. We all have vivid imaginations; let's see where they take us.

SCENE:
The loud roar of the speedboat's engine drowned out all conversation, though occasional laughter could be heard from the party's guests. A water skier zipped and whirled through the swirling wake behind the boat, one hand holding the tow line while waving frantically with the other.

I watched in horror as he pulled from the waistband of his swim trunks a semi-automatic pistol. I screamed and yelled for everyone to get down, as people turned to stare at me in horror. Then the sound of the pistol, had people screaming and dropping to the floor of the boat. I raised my head up and peered over the side of the boat and watched as the skier took aim for the captain of the boat.

A second boat appeared out of nowhere, accelerating parallel to ours. Chaos swirled as panic enveloped the party-goers, the high pitched screams almost obscuring the ping, ping, ping of bullets striking the hull of the speedboat. My gaze flew to Gareth, still skiing behind us, adrenaline surging through my blood as his pointed gun shifted from the captain toward our attackers.

But before Gareth could fire off a shot he was gunned down himself by one of the attackers who again took aim at our captain. One shot was all it took to fell him and send the boat swirling out of control.

I sprang into action, more from fear than intelligence, hunching low so as not to be a target as I took the wheel of the boat.

This can't be happening, this cannot be happening! How'd I end up in a crazy gun chase in the middle of a lake? I'm not a spy or a secret agent from one of the romance novels I secretly devour--I sell gourmet cupcakes for a living.

But tell that to the ugly guy with the big-ass gun pointed directly at my head from the other boat. I bent down just in time to miss the bullet that whizzed past my head.

Holy shit! He really was trying to kill me.

I grabbed a cupcake from the box under the seat and lobbed my favorite--a huge chocolate one with a jawbreaker stuck in the middle--at the gunman. Smack! It hit the side of his head, knocking him into the water. Well, I knew it had a lot of calories but didn't realize it was that dense.

I watched as my attacker's boat raced driverless towards the shore packed with oblivious partygoers. I had to knock it off course before it careened on the beach causing catastrophic damage. I pressed down on the throttle of the boat I had become in control of in an attempt to intercept the deadly torpedo.
