.@VickiBatman - Is the party over? After Christmas blues #MFRWorg #RLFblog #plottingprincesses

Last week, I returned from a vacation after Christmas. We'd left Christmas afternoon and drove six-seven hours to see Handsome's mom and other family members. The next day, we drove to our vacation destination.

Where we stayed was snow-covered and quite beautiful. In fact, we had mostly gray days with flurries and a snow during our stay. All I wanted to do was stay in bed and read.

Then we drove home with tiny-tiny sleet pelting the windshield. The roads were clear--thankfully. We drove over a pass and into sunshine spreading into a valley. That didn't last long. A thick fog blanketed everything. Normally, we see hills and antelopes. I could see the cars in front of me and considered it lucky we could accelerate to 60. We did make it home, tacking an extra hour on our return.

And what did I find upon my return from relaxing, reading and stitching needlepoint? Christmas. Nothing had been put away. All exactly where I'd left it.

Sigh. And that got me to thinking that all I did this year was rush-rush toward Thanksgiving, then Christmas and didn't enjoy the journey. And rush-rush to leave only to come home to have to put things away.

I'm vowing to do better. Maybe I need to plan better. Maybe I need to relish the simpler things.

So think of me today as I finish packing away the holiday decorations. I'm serving cocktails if you want to join in the fun!

How about you? Did you rush-rush through the holidays?

Vicki, oh gosh! It was sooooo lovely to spend time with you during your holiday stay. Traveling and getting home to "real world" and things left undone, has a way of sapping that lovely feeling. I read a lot during the holidays, too, but we were all so sick, I was kind of glad when time passed. I love the holidays, but I'm always raring to get going and get back to writing! I'd love a glass of vino please, but it is rather early :) Hugs!

Good morning Vicki, since it's 8:30AM I join you in a cup of coffee. Sorry about the rush-rush holidays. I know it's great to be with family during the holidays, but sometimes it's best to step back, take a deep breath and enjoy just being at home. I love the Christmas season, do lots of decorating and baking, so I opt to stay home and let other visit me. That's worked for us for the last few years now and I find I love relaxing in my own home all decorated for the season. Thanks for sharing, and I'm glad you were able to relax and do some reading.

Oh, I know Vicki. We rush and rush and don't slow down and enjoy. Lose the joy that should be there. I think simplifying things is the answer. Maybe not trying to do it all. Sometimes I think back to being a kiddo and how much fun Christmas was. I'm sure my mom was just as stressed as I am these days, but I had no idea. Chill, my friend.

Hi, Donnell! I am so happy we had dinner together with our special guys.

I hope you are well and recovered from your fall.

I think my problem is we've rushed to go out of town Christmas day and I believe the cure is to wait a day or two. chill at home. ox

Hi, Judy! I had lots of family at Thanksgiving this year. And I, too, love to put out my beloved treasures and light my Fraser fir tree. I'll be fine and maybe next time, we'll do coffee drinks. Hugs!

Hi, Pam! And part of my problem this year was four trips from November to Jan. That's a lot for me. With hostessing Thanksgiving at my house right after the company conference and promoting two books... Not much I could let go there. I'll be fine. Champagne is a good cure-all. Hugs!

We're you in COLORADO???? I so know what you mean...sigh. Glad it's over this year.

Hi, D'Ann! Typically, I don't say where I am because Handsome likes some privacy. :)

Thank you for stopping by. Many hugs.

Holidays should be a time to relax. My daughter came home for two weeks of R and R, so I didn't have to go anywhere. And all I had to do to get back to daily life after she left was change the sheets.

I feel like the whole entirety of last year was rush, rush, rush. We didn't even put up a tree this past Christmas, there just wasn't time.

Glad you got to spend some time resting and relaxing, and reading. (Those are my kind of 3 R's -- forget the other ones LOL).

Glad you're back though.

I'm always a little sad when the Holiday Season is over. I enjoy the baking (and eating), decorating, and excitable kids. Once January 1st rolls around, I'm ready for Spring (and Baseball Season)!

This was the first year in so long where I didn't rush. I did have a blast this year too. Everything seemed very precious to me, so when it was over I was sad. However, my son has talked me into keeping our baby Christmas tree up still. So we are still celebrating over here! :)

I love snow. Great pictures, glad you enjoyed yourself

I did rush through the holidays but then had some time afterward to enjoy and de-stress. That's one of the benefits of being a teacher. I dreaded going back to work and am ready for a break again!

Boy did this hit home today. I've felt like the last week has been nothing but a rush and no I didn't enjoy Christmas this year. But tomorrow is another day and I'll do better. But...today is I HATE DENTIST DAY, while I sit here with throbbing teeth. Now I'm off to take a pain pill and relax the rest of the evening. Carry on without me.

PS the pictures are lovely and I know your vacation retreat was lovely as well. Now, I need drugs.

I am so with you on the rush-rush of the holidays. This year they were a blur for me. Totally crazy. Christmas is my favorite holiday but lately it just seems like everyone is rushing around and then poof it's over and now it's a new year. I guess that's what happens when we age. :)

Many hugs!!

Hi, Linda and Kathy: We shouldn't rush. We should savor each and every moment. I know why mine was so bad: company conference the week before Thanksgiving. Then Thanksgiving, then trip with girlfriends. Bam! Bam! Bam! Oh and let's toss in that respiratory thingy too. lol

Hi, Angela! I'm thinking we have six more weeks of *interesting* weather around here before spring begins. Funny, my flowering quince is covered in buds already. If we have a bit of warmth and sunshine, it will bloom.

I love baseball. Put in many years with my sons. Hugs!

Hi, Red! I'm so happy you are still celebrating. I'm still rejoicing in the few Christmas lights that are still up! Tee-heee, I critique them too. Hugs!

Hi, Marian! The four inches of snow were so pretty. My little white pooch could hardly walk through, but he enjoyed himself. ox

Hi, Melissa! Glad you enjoyed some time off and I'm thinking you have a holiday around the corner! Thank you for stopping by.

Hi, Sylvia! You need some time off from writing because you are writing like a mad woman! But I am amazed and your productivity.

Confession: I was at the dentist yesterday too. For a crown because I broke off part of a tooth when eating popcorn. ox, girl.

Hi, Karilyn: time flies nowadays. We pack our days full--don't we? And I don't mind because I like it all.

BTW--anyone else notice how quick Valentine and Easter stuff went up?
