Plotting Princess for the day-Stacy Green & Into the Dark

The PP Gals Welcome Stacy Green!
And stay til the end for the special announcement.

Hey, Stacy!

How did you get from your day job to writing romance?  Well, my day job has been a stay at home mom/child care provider since 2006. I’d given up writing years ago, but once I had more time to myself, I started writing again and slowly the book emerged.

What are your three favorite books of all time? Just three? Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned, Thomas Harris’s Silence of the Lambs, Bronte’s Jane Eyre.

Morning, afternoon, or evening person? Evening, but my daughter’s schedule forces me to be a morning person.

Music--with or without? What kind? Depends on my mood. If I listen to music when writing, it’s usually mellow, like Snow Patrol, The Fray, Tori Amos.

First or third POV? I love reading both, but I tend to write in third because I use multiple points of view, and I think that’s easier to read.

How's tricks? Do you juggle multiple projects? I’m going to be this year. I think the key is being very organized. I’m working on learning to plot and write faster, and to stop procrastinating. My biggest worry is that one book will sound too much like the other!

What's harder: beginning, middle, or the end? Middle, by far. You’ve got to make it count, and it’s really easy to get bogged down in details.

Revisions: Love 'em or hate 'em? Love ‘em! That’s when you really get into the meat of the story.

How did you come up with that title?  The storm drains below Las Vegas play a key role in the book, and since Emilie and Nathan venture into the tunnels in search of the bad guy, INTO THE DARK seemed natural. The tunnels are pitch black and terrifying, and I think the title evokes that.

Best advice anybody every gave you? Write the book you want to read.

Fill in this blank: My ideal fictional hero would think me gorgeous no matter… how chubby I am, or how bad of hair day I was having, or my Google Chrome browser history. It’s for research purposes, after all!

What's your favorite dessert? Cheesecake!

Do you write at home or someplace else? I’m able to write at home. Unfortunately, my office is also the spare bedroom and/or junk room, so I spend a lot of time working in my living room recliner.

What's your favorite type of hero/heroine and why? I like a vulnerable hero/heroine, one who has persevered through various hardships and still manages to have a good outlook on life. I think damaged makes for much more interesting reading!

An Excerpt From INTO THE DARK:

Emilie risked another glance at him. Narrowed in either anger or grief, his eyes glistened with moisture. “She was wrong. All of those exist in the daylight as well. Poor Jo didn’t need to fear the dark. Her bad luck came on a hot, sunny afternoon.” His voice faltered.
“What happened to her?”
“That’s none of your business.” Her captor jumped as though jolted with electricity. “Josephine belongs to me and to me alone,” he snarled.
Emilie scooted as far away from the man as the small space would allow.
“I’m sorry.” His voice was contrite. “Forgive my rudeness. That was extremely ungentlemanly.”
Intimacy had crept back into his tone. Emilie cringed.
“Don’t be afraid, Miss Emilie,” Creepy Guy pleaded. “I would never hurt you.”
“You already have.”
He edged closer until his covered arm brushed her bare one. The material was soft and lightweight. Breathable. Expensive. Not cheap rags like Joe wore.
“Only because you’re scared. But I knew we were connected the first moment I saw you. Once you allow me to explain my actions, you will understand everything. You carry our connection with you every day.”
“We have no connection.”
“Oh but we do. I’ve watched you for so long, my dear Miss Emilie.” He spoke softly now, like a lover would. “So many times, I was close enough to reach out and touch you, to make you mine. But the time and place weren’t right. Waiting for you has been torture.”

Good morning, Vicki! Thanks for having me. I've been thrilled with the reviews, and yes, surprised. It's my first book, and since writing the second and being well into my third, I've thought of all sorts of things I could have done differently with INTO THE DARK. So to see so many good reviews has been wonderful.

LIese,
You're very welcome. As for the tunnels, my first stop was to read Matt O'Brien's book, Beneath the Neon. He spent a lot of time talking with the locals and touring the tunnels, and he does a great job of brining their reality to life. I also managed to talk to Matt over the phone, and that really helped me to get a strong sense of what it would be like to be down there.

Great questions!

Hi Stacy. Welcome to the PP. Great having you. I too love the editing/rewrite stage. That's where the magic/life gets added.

Thanks so much, Kim. Congrats on your upcoming release!

Phyllis,
Thank you! He is creepy, and I am always thinking of ways I could make my next guy creepier. Thanks!

Pamela,
Thanks! I agree. I'm actually working on a new book, and I am leaving out a lot of the extras until the second draft because that's when I do my best work.

Hi Stacy,
I'm late to the party as usual. I loved Silence of the Lambs. Terrifying book and movie, but interesting character.

Vicki - thanks so much. Enjoyed the stop.

Kathy - I have always written some for of suspense, but it's definitely evolved as I got older. Has always been my favorite genre to read. Thanks so much!
